We usually don't bother about Friday the 13th here, but never wear or bring anything red to a funeral.
The number four (sounds like death) is considered unlucky, probably also the reason why 4-leaf clovers never really caught on.
The number eight (sounds like fortune) is considered lucky.

Superstitions I learned from my Mom growing up..

If you see a (harmless) snake in the grass you will be lucky with money.
Don't hug anyone if you are lucky or they will get your good luck.
If a butterfly crosses your path (flys in front of you) something good is coming your way or good news.

And I had forgotten about my habit of putting sweetener in my cup before pouring in a hot drink (coffee, tea etc) makes you prosperous. I learned that from her too!

Salt is often given away to the wedding as a wish for prosperity along with bread. If you throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder, you came away with a curse.

Hang a horseshoe as a defense against evil on the wall of your house. As a permanent symbol of luck, it should be hung with the opening up, otherwise the luck will fall out.

Ashes from the chimney sweep in the face should bring good luck. He thus protects the domestic happiness of the family.
